Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Public Schools believes every student deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. We are committed to providing individualized supports and services that help students with disabilities access meaningful educational experiences alongside their peers whenever appropriate.

Our special education team partners with families, teachers, and community agencies to develop programs that build on each student's strengths while addressing their unique learning needs. Services are provided in accordance with state and federal special education laws and are individualized through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process.

Who We Serve

HLWW provides special education services for eligible students from birth through age 21, including:

• Early Intervention (Birth–2)
• Early Childhood Special Education (Ages 3–Kindergarten)
• Elementary School
• Middle School
• High School
• Transition Services (18–21)

Students qualify for services through a comprehensive evaluation that identifies a disability and demonstrates an educational need.

Speech and Language Services

Occupational Therapy

Support for:

• Fine motor skills
• Handwriting
• Sensory processing

• Classroom participation

Physical Therapy

Support for:

• Gross motor development
• Mobility
• Positioning
• Access to educational environments

School Psychology Services

Including:

• Comprehensive evaluations
• Consultation
• Social-emotional assessment

School Social Work

Providing:

• Family support
• Community resource coordination
• Attendance and engagement support

Behavioral Supports

Students may receive:

• Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA)
• Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP)
• Behavioral consultation
• Individualized intervention planning

Inclusive Services

HLWW believes students learn best when they are active members of their school community. Whenever appropriate, students receive services within general education classrooms alongside their peers with supports designed to promote success.

Our staff works collaboratively with classroom teachers to provide accommodations, modifications, and specially designed instruction while maintaining high expectations for all learners.
