Principal's Corner

About Mr. Mix
About me:

“They don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.”

Hello Howard Lake – Waverly – Winsted students, parents, and community members, my name is Jason Mix, your principal at HLWW High School. I’m a believer that through your support, the strong high school teaching staff, and a commitment to educational excellence, we will meet and exceed all expectations we have for the school now and in the future. While these results will not occur overnight, I hope you are willing to take the journey with us as we continue to move our school forward.

Background information:

I grew up in the small town of Windom, MN. Growing up in Windom was a very positive experience as the small town life allowed me to try out many different activities ranging from sports (FB, BBB, and BB) to the art (fall musical, band, choir). I attended the University of MN-Morris in the fall of ’96 and played baseball and football, culminating with my graduation in 2001. My teaching experiences took me overseas (Nice, France) and out to Palm Springs, California for 8 years teaching middle school and high school science. In addition to teaching, I started my administrative career in Palm Springs as a Dean of Students. My family moved to DeKalb, IL (66 miles west of Chicago) in 2009 to allow me to lead a large middle school for three years. It was a great experience and we made great friends but we needed to move back home to Minnesota.

I have been married for 16 years to my best friend, Cassie (KC), who grew up in Mankato and is teaching math at Buffalo High School. In addition, we have two wonderful daughters (Natalie – 8th Grade;  and Allison –6th Grade), who keep us on our feet and who will be around the school with me as the school year progresses. It's been fun watching them grow up over the last few years, however, it's been way too fast! I give you my word that I will treat your child as I would my own and work to make the best decision for them when needed.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you need anything.

Jason Mix, Principal
